Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (around 110°F/43°C)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Garlic Butter Topping
- 4 tablespoons butter (plant-based)
- 4 fresh garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
Optional Garnishes
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- Herbs like rosemary or thyme (optional, for variation)
Instructions
- Prepare the Yeast Dough: Dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 to 7 minutes until frothy and bubbly to activate the yeast.
- Mix and Knead the Dough: In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil, stirring to form a soft dough. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles, then divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place them close together in a greased baking dish.
- Second Rise: Cover the formed rolls and let rise again for 30 to 40 minutes until puffy.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: Melt the plant-based butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in minced garlic and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), allowing flavors to meld without browning.
- Bake and Brush: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 18 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately brush the tops generously with the warm garlic butter mixture.
Notes
- Use fresh yeast if available for a fluffier rise and enhanced flavor.
- Do not skip rising times to ensure soft, fluffy rolls.
- Brush garlic butter immediately after baking to lock in moisture and aroma.
- Tent with foil while baking if tops brown too quickly to prevent burning.
- Slightly warm oils and butter to help activate yeast and meld flavors perfectly.
