Description

These soft, fluffy, and tender Dinner Rolls are perfect for any meal, made with simple, natural ingredients that create a fresh-baked warmth at your table. Ideal as a side, sandwich base, or snack, they are customizable and kid-friendly, making them a favorite homemade bread recipe.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon natural gelling agent
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup plant-based milk

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water along with the sugar. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it bubbles and foams, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, salt, and natural gelling agent. Stir in the yeast mixture, vegetable oil, and plant-based milk until the dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic to develop gluten structure.
  4. First Rise: Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles. Divide into equal portions and shape each into a smooth ball by tucking edges underneath.
  6. Second Rise: Arrange dough balls on a parchment-lined baking tray, spaced apart. Cover and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes until almost doubled.
  7. Bake to Perfection: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown on top. Optionally brush warm rolls with melted plant-based butter (natural) after baking.

Notes

  • Check yeast freshness for a good rise and soft rolls.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for better dough consistency.
  • Knead properly to develop structure and chew.
  • Do not skip the second rise for fluffiness.
  • Rotate baking tray halfway if needed for even browning.
